Place History:
Before the plague, the UWM campus was a center of research and knowledge, and more than 30,000 students attended class there every day. Once the sickness hit, the solid, concrete structures flooded with the dead, the dying, and refugees who saw the invincible structures as some bastion of safety from the chaos consuming the world around them. In 2096, a newly reformed chapter of the MPD identified the campus, specifically the former Union, as an easily defensible fortress to establish their corrupt system of law enforcement. With their superior weaponry and armor, the MPD swept through the Union and nearby academic buildings, slaughtering every nomadic, diseased, and helpless vagrant they encountered in what would come to be called the Municipal Massacre. After wiping the blood from the concrete floors (and silencing anyone they could find who remembered), the MPD established their command structure in the massive Union, and began enforcing their twisted system of law in the areas around their new fortress.

In reverence of those who lost their lives in the MPD's clean-sweep, those in resistance to their power, such as the Bandits of the Hood, refer to the fortress as "The Tombstone".

The first floor of the Tombstone was obliterated in an explosion during a carefully choreographed prison break.
